Grit and Goals: Hand in Hand
That’s Good It’s Friday Ladies!
It’s time to let our hair down and unwind. Let’s kick back, put our feet up, and embrace the weekend vibes.
As we settle into this relaxation, I can’t help but reflect on something that struck me earlier this week. As I sat in front of my vanity table, applying my skincare as always (because you know the skin must be skinning 🤭). I recalled a video where a lady spoke about who inspires her in tech and she replied that Mitchelle Chibundu does, and one of her reasons was that she had GRIT. This idea of grit resonated with me deeply, especially as I remembered a recent class where we were all encouraged to cultivate this essential quality.
Is this a sign?👀 we were taught that Grit is the passion and perseverance for long-term goals. The unshakeable determination to overcome obstacles, stay focused, and continue pushing forward, even when the journey gets tough. In today’s fast-paced world, especially in tech, you need audacity but most especially grit. Having it can be a game-changer. Just like we take time to care for our skin, nurturing our grit requires intentional effort.
How to Cultivate Grit
1. Set Clear Goals: Identify what you want to achieve and break it down into manageable steps because having a clear vision will help you maintain motivation.
2. Embrace Challenges: Facing difficulties head-on builds resilience and growth.
3. Practice Persistence: Stay committed to your goals, just like how you are dedicated to your skincare journey even when progress feels slow.
4. Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Believe in the ability of I don't know it yet to be able to learn and grow.
5. Surround Yourself with Support: Build a sisterhood—a community that helps you grow. Connect with like-minded individuals who encourages, challenge you and celebrate small wins.
This brings me to our incredible Women in tech community, particularly those in Nigeria. These trailblazers exemplify grit in every sense. They navigate challenges, break barriers, and inspire future generations with their resilience and innovation. Take Mitchelle Chibundu for example, popularly known as Designer Babe, she has risen to become a prominent Global Product Designer manager, hosting design events with a thriving community of designers, while empowering the next generation of tech talent. Mitchelle embodies the spirit of grit that encourages us all to strive for excellence. You too can achieve all of your dreams if only you would remain determined.
Lest I forget, it’s International Day of the Girl Child, take a moment to recognize and celebrate the women in tech who have shown us what it means to be resilient and passionate. Their journeys are not just personal victories; they serve as beacons of hope and inspiration for young girls everywhere. Encouraging the next generation of girls to embrace their potential and pursue their dreams. And to you Queen, I celebrate the incredible mark you are making in the world of technology, keep blazing the trail!

Fun Fact:
Did you know that research shows grit is a better predictor of success than talent or IQ? In fact, psychologist Angela Duckworth, who popularized the concept, found that individuals with high levels of grit tend to achieve more because they are willing to persevere through challenges and stay committed to their long-term goals. So, it’s not just about how smart you are—it’s about how determined you are
